The ‘Jumanji’ actor, one of the highest paid in Hollywood, struggled to get through his speech with fans chanting “Rocky”, a reference to his wrestling moniker.
Johnson, 45, recognized those who helped him in his career, including girlfriend Lauren Hashian, who is pregnant with their second child.
“You don’t have success alone. You don’t do it alone,” he said. “It takes a team so I‘m so grateful right now to recognize a few people in my life and it is just a few and they are here who without them there would be no me.”
After thanking the crowd, he recounted his favorite quote that he first discovered as a 15-year old – “It’s nice to be important but it’s more important to be nice.”
Johnson’s star, the 2,624th to be awarded, is next to the stars of World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Vince McMahon and muppet Kermit the Frog.
Johnson was a college football player for the University of Miami, where he won a national championship on the 1991 Miami Hurricanes team.
After being cut from the Calgary Stampeders of CFL two months into the 1995 season, Johnson began training for a career in professional wrestling, following in the footsteps of various family members, including his grandfather and his father, Rocky Johnson, from whom he inherited Canadian citizenship in 2009.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, Johnson gained mainstream fame in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) from 1996 to 2004 and was the first third-generation wrestler in the company’s history.

One of his more prominent roles is Luke Hobbs in The Fast and the Furious franchise. Johnson hosted and produced The Hero, a reality competition series and has since continued to produce TV shows and films through his production company Seven Bucks Productions.

Because of his mother, Ata Fitisemanu Maivia, is a descendant of Samoan chiefs, and in recognition of his service to the Samoan people, Malietoa Tanumafili II bestowed upon Johnson the noble title of Seiuli during his visit there in July 2004.
Johnson married Dany Garcia on May 3, 1997. Their daughter was born in 2001. On June 1, 2007, they announced they were splitting up amicably.
Soon after the divorce, Johnson began dating Lauren Hashian, the daughter of Boston drummer Sib Hashian. They first met in 2006 while Johnson was filming The Game Plan. Their first child, daughter Jasmine, was born December 16, 2015.
In December 2017, Johnson announced he and Hashian are expecting their second child, a girl.
