Celebrating LGBT Celebrity Couples

p.txtLegalization of same gender marriage has been a result of the long and arduous battle fought by the advocates of gender equality. Most of these advocates are huge Hollywood stars who have come out of the closet and embraced their preference in front of the world, inspiring everyone else who has been struggling with their identity to accept themselves. Thanks to the effort of some of the most iconic gay celebrity couples, Hollywood leads the way for LGBTQ rights and relationships. Here are some of the most powerful LGBTQ couples in show biz who have helped lift the taboo.

George Takei and Brad Altman

Who doesn’t know George Takei, the famous actor who played the role of Mr. Sulu in Star Trek? The actor found the love of his life, Brad Altman, after he joined a gay running club to get fit for his role in the film. Altman was the fittest and fastest runner in the club which was why he was approached by Takei, who asked Altman to be his trainer. Their relationship grew from the running club and the two became romantically involved, although they kept their relationship a secret for almost two decades before coming out of the closet. They got married in 2008 and recently purchased a property in Visalia, California. Word on the street was that that was a precursor to their next piece of real estate, which they hope will be in Washington, D.C., since Takei announced that he would be running for congress in that district. Only that turned out to be an April Fool’s Day joke. Well, he sure fooled me!

Meshell Ndegeocello and Rebecca Walker

Anyone who can recall the popping jams of the 1990’s will remember Meshell Ndegeocello and her big debut album, Plantation Lullabies. It was all over the radio back in 1993. She is credited for sparking the neo-soul movement. Meshell has also been in a relationship with writer Rebecca Walker. Walker is one of the most prominent voices in the third wave feminist movement. Since the two have gotten together, Walker has helped Meshell raise her son.
