youre fired

In Paula Deen fashion, companies are reacting quickly to distance themselves from high profile employees or spokespeople who have been caught uttering racist, homophobic and misoginistic comments.

As a result of offensive and derogatory statements by some of the houseguests on CBS’s Big Brother 15, two of those contestants have been fired from their jobs.

Big Brother houseguest Aaryn Gries has been fired from her modeling agency for offensive comments she made on the show. Comments that were heard and documented via the live feeds, but as of this writing, have not been aired on the broadcast of the show, nor in any statement from CBS acknowledging them.

Zephyr Talent  of Austin, Texas issued this statement, which was posted on their social media accounts (Facebook and Twitter)

A few hours later, GinaMarie Zimmerman’s employer relieved her of her job as well.

TMZ reported: East Coast USA Pageant, Inc. is cutting ties with the 32-year-old pageant coordinator, claiming they were shocked GZ could “display such acts of hate and racism.”

bb15-ginamarie 2GinaMarie has been an employee for 5 years, but East Coast USA Pageant insists, “We have never known this side of GinaMarie or have ever witnessed such acts of racism in the past.”

The pageant says, “We are actually thankful that this show let us see GinaMarie for who she truly is. We would never want her to be a role model to our future contestants.”

“In a business where we are surrounded by beauty every day we are saddened to see something so ugly come from someone we put on a very high pedestal.”

The company went on to say that they now regret telling the other girls to watch the show and support GinaMarie, thinking she would make a good role model.

While Aaryn Gries and GinaMarie Zimmerman won’t know of their firings until the end of the series, this will add to their wake-up call that their vile bigotry isn’t being rewarded. In addition to the jobs loss, they will also be facing the online world of blogs, forums and fan sites with blunt commentary on each of them.

Is this a ball rolling through the Big Brother house?  Are similar reprimands or job losses on the horizon for the other housequests spewing similar comments?  We shall see.  We’re waiting for a real CBS/Big Brother reaction to the situation.  The blanket “they said it, we didn’t” statement is empty at this juncture.  CBS/BB needs to mete out punishments or reprimands to them at the least, and CBS needs to air some of the statements so viewers who don’t have the live feeds get an accurate picture of the happenings in the house. After all, the MVP vote depends on viewers have ALL the information on a houseguests ‘game play’ to make a legit and informed vote.  Otherwise, why bother voting. It puts the fair players in a hole competing against saintly edits of bigots.

CBS’s statement about the racist, homophobic & misogynist comments running rampant thru the house:

“BIG BROTHER is a reality show about watching a group of people who have no privacy 24/7 — and seeing every moment of their lives. At times, the Houseguests reveal prejudices and other beliefs that we do not condone. We certainly find the statements made by several of the Houseguests on the live Internet feed to be offensive. Any views or opinions expressed in personal commentary by a Houseguest appearing on BIG BROTHER, either on any live feed from the House or during the broadcast, are those of the individual(s) speaking and do not represent the views or opinions of CBS or the producers of the program.”
